Strength Training: "Just do it" Why Nike has it right...Ok, I'm going to reveal to you a big part of my personality here and many people won't like what they hear. If you already know me, this may be a surprise to you that I can be so cruel but unfortunately, it really is just a part of my personality so your going to have to deal with it. I have learned to water down my personality because realistically, if most people knew what was going on in my head they would probably cease to like me. You see, my personality is kind of like a G rated porn film. I know this is impossible to do because you can't show kids nudity and this really is what porn is all about. My personality is much like this. Society wouldn't accept what is going on in my head so I have to attempt to make it G rated. So when you meet me, usually what you get is the G rated version. However, in an effort to make a point, I'm going to go ahead and let my real personality come out in this article. Hopefully, It will prove to be a good outlet for me as well:) When I first meet a new perspective client the first thing that really goes through my head is not a very nice thing. What goes through my head is really a short dialogue of controversy. Here is the dialog; In the form of the the classic good and evil struggle; Devil: There is no way this person will achieve their goals. They are probably going to be eating donuts and hoho's as soon as they walk out the door and their training will be sub par in effort at best. Angel: Yea, but you never know until you show them the right way of doing it... Devil: Even if I show them the right way, the easiest way, they will still be too lazy to follow through. People are weak minded and very inconsistent. They will be discouraged that they didn't turn into Arnold Schwarzenegger or Halle Berry after 2 months and they will quit. Angel: Come on man, you have to give them a chance. This may be their only shot. It for sure is their best shot at this. Devil: Yea this is true, but even if they do what I say outside and inside the gym, and even if they do see results, and even if they do have some commitment and motivation, it will all go to waste as soon as life throws them a single curve ball and all their results will fly out the window. Angel: You know that this isn't true, you are being hopeless and unrealistic. Give people the benefit of the doubt man. Devil: I do give them the benefit of the doubt. Every time, but the numbers support me. Most people don't even come close to having what it takes to achieve and keep their goals. It's like 10% at best succeed and continue to grow. They will say they are too busy, or it is too hard to eat healthy, or something came up, or it just isn't important enough. The fact of the matter is that people are simply too dishonest with themselves. They say they want something but they won't do what it takes to get it. Obviously they don't want it enough to put in the hard work. If they wanted it bad enough then they would do anything to get it. Unfortunately, they are too lazy. Their desire for immediate comfort outweighs their motivation. It is not even close. They want it now, and they want it easy. Angel: Then make them want it more so they can achieve it. Devil: I can try, but only they can maintain this at a level that really means anything. Angel: Then tell them this. Devil: I will, who knows. Maybe I'll find someone who really will do what it takes. Conclusion- So this is what goes through my head when I am talking to a client for the first time. I hope you get the point. I can't make you want it enough. You have to want it yourself and you have to foster this desire or you will fail. So get off your lazy ass and prove me wrong...
